Isabaya
A long-established robatayaki restaurant in Abashiri, housed in a real fishing boat
This long-established robatayaki (charcoal-grilled food) restaurant has been loved by food connoisseurs in Abashiri for over 20 years, maintaining its traditional reputation. Its roots lie in the fact that the current owner's mother started it behind the factory of a fisheries company. The restaurant's name was chosen by the founder, after "Isaba," which means "fishing grounds" or "fish market."
What immediately catches the eye inside the restaurant is the large fishing boat that sits proudly in the center! The area around it is lined with counter seats, creating a bold and unique atmosphere.
When you visit, you absolutely must try the restaurant's signature robatayaki (charcoal-grilled food). The style of grilling fresh seafood right in front of you is sure to whet your appetite. Popular menu items include fatty Atka mackerel from Rausu, and premium fish unique to Abashiri such as Kinki (rockfish) and scallops. While there is also a wide selection of à la carte dishes such as sashimi and fried foods, we recommend starting with the robatayaki, a specialty that has been enjoyed since the restaurant's founding, to savor the bounty of Abashiri's sea.
We are particular about our alcoholic beverages so that you can enjoy the food even more, and we have a wide selection of sake, mainly from Hokkaido.
"Isabaya," a restaurant that evokes the vibrancy and history of the fishing town of Abashiri, offers a special experience not only through its food but also through its overall atmosphere.

The large boat inside the restaurant is a real fishing boat. It was used for sea urchin fishing on Rebun Island and is now used as counter seating. One of the charms of Isabaya is that you can enjoy the bounty of Abashiri's sea in a unique and impactful space.
