Abashiri Senshuan
A long-established confectionery shop with unchanging flavors and a view of Abashiri.
Founded in the early Showa period, the shop's origins lie in the fact that the founder trained at a confectionery shop in Hokkaido and then branched off from that shop. The display case features about 20 kinds of sweets that evoke a sense of nostalgia. The most popular item is the "dorayaki," which features pancakes carefully baked one by one by the owner and filled with plenty of Hokkaido-produced red bean paste. Other popular items include the summer-only "anmitsu," the "apple pie" with its fluffy and crispy pastry crust, and fresh pastries such as "omelet cake."
Currently run by the family, primarily the third generation, most of the sweets they sell were created by the second generation, the third generation's husband. Sweets with names that evoke the scenery of Abashiri, such as "Sangosou," a madeleine baked with plenty of butter, and "Moyoro no Inishie," which has a sweet potato-like flavor using white bean paste, sweet potato, and fresh cream, are recommended as souvenirs.
