This long-established bakery has been loved by customers since the time of the grandfather. While retaining the lively atmosphere of its heyday as "Bakery Yamauchi," the third generation, who honed his skills at a confectionery shop in Tokyo, is now carrying on its traditions.
They are committed to "handmade" quality, putting their heart and soul into every single item. Their dedication to using plenty of local wheat and vegetables, and insisting on using locally sourced ingredients even for the fillings in their prepared breads, has captivated their long-time fans.
The shop offers 70 to 80 different kinds of bread every day, including their signature clam bread, a favorite since the shop's founding, the fish cake bread created by the second generation, and seasonal breads made with fresh ingredients by the third generation. Popular items include bean bread, soft-boiled egg curry bread, and red bean donuts.
Furthermore, their skills in both Japanese and Western confectionery are top-notch, and they boast a wide range of offerings, including their popular "Sakura Mochi" (cherry blossom rice cake), which surpasses the popularity of traditional Japanese confectionery shops, as well as brightly colored macarons and character cakes available by reservation only.
This local bakery supplies bread to the school store at a nearby high school, and continues to support Abashiri's food culture across generations.
