The "Abashiri Drift Ice Sightseeing Icebreaker Aurora" offers a firsthand experience of the breathtaking winter scenery of Abashiri, where drift ice covers the Sea of Okhotsk.
The "Aurora" is a large icebreaker with a capacity of 400 people, and its greatest appeal is the exhilarating sound and vibration you can feel as it powerfully breaks through thick ice. Because it is a large ship, there is little rocking, and the interior is heated, so you can comfortably enjoy the world of drift ice without having to go out into the freezing cold. From the first-floor cabins, you can view the drift ice up close from a low perspective via the side deck, and there are also special cabins (reserved seats) on the second floor where you can enjoy the power of icebreaking right in front of you. For those who want to feel the breath of the ice more directly, the observation deck is recommended, but it gets very cold, so thorough cold weather gear is essential. If you're lucky, you may encounter wild animals such as seals standing on the drift ice or majestic Steller's sea eagles and white-tailed eagles during the cruise.
Additionally, the small vessel "Aurora 3" does not perform icebreaking, but it sails very close to the drift ice, allowing you to enjoy it up close. (Please inquire about the operating status as this is a special service.)

There is no guarantee that you will be able to see the drift ice during the operation period, but you can see various expressions depending on the season and time of day. Also, if you are lucky, you may be able to spot white-Haliaeetus albicilla and seals.
