During the snow-free season, the year-round "Ancient and Jomon Walk" tour explores untouched ruins from various eras, fort ruins (remains of Ainu forts), and war relics around Abashiri. The Okhotsk coastline miraculously retains numerous traces of the Paleolithic to Jomon periods, including the Satsumon and Okhotsk cultures and the Ainu cultures, which are not found on Honshu. Since there are no signposts, you must rely on your guide's local knowledge to guide you to places that would be difficult to reach on your own. The appeal of this tour is experiencing the same perspectives as ancient people, seeing the paths they used to hunt along the sea and the scenery they saw. The war relics include trenches (field positions) built during World War II, a little-known vestige of war in eastern Hokkaido. We'll take you to an area where ancient and modern history intersect, a place you won't find in guidebooks.
