A beginner's course through the Yobito Peninsula, a treasure trove of wild birds

The Yobito Peninsula, jutting out into Lake Abashiri, is a naturally rich area where many wild birds can be seen year-round, so much so that a bird-watching trail has been established. Even in winter, small birds as well as large raptors such as white-tailed eagles, Steller's sea eagles, and red foxes can be seen. Listen carefully to the sounds of various birds and be thrilled by the cute footprints of animals left in the snow. Your guide will lead you through the forest for a full two hours, stopping occasionally. Hot drinks are also provided. Due to the size of the snowshoe rentals, participants must have feet measuring 20 cm or larger. Since the snowshoeing is done on the frozen Lake Abashiri, even beginners can participate with peace of mind. Away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, you're sure to enjoy a quiet moment facing nature.

You can see people fishing for smelt as you move across the lake and stroll through the forests of the Yobito Peninsula. Once you leave the forest, the lake, which is filled with water in the summer, turns into a lake of ice over 40cm thick! It's a true wonder of nature.
