Located in the Misaki area along the shores of Lake Notoro from Abashiri city, the Yachidamo (Fallon's ash) is an extremely precious tree that was selected as one of the Forestry Agency's "Top 100 Forest Giants." This tree is estimated to be over 300 years old, boasts a majestic scale with a trunk circumference of 460cm and a height of 37m, and its weight of history sets it apart from the surrounding trees. Looking at it up close, you will find a mysterious charm, as if absorbing the power of nature and becoming invigorated. You can also hear the murmuring of the stream flowing nearby, creating an extraordinary space that is soothing to the soul. Yachidamo is about a 5-minute walk (300m) from the entrance to the Pon-on-nenai Forest Road. There are some ups and downs and wetlands, so please be sure to wear appropriate equipment.
Abashiri City also holds an "Autumn Wood Education Event" that combines a tour of the Manchurian ash at Misaki with a stroll through the surrounding forest, allowing visitors to learn about the forest at their own pace.
