"Wish-granting bell" and "Scallop shell votive plaque"

  • Suburban area

Standing next to Cape Notoro Cape Lighthouse, this symbol grants travelers' wishes

This bell, installed under the Cape Notoro Lighthouse, which has been illuminating the safe navigation and destinations of ships for 100 years, aims to become a symbol that will grant the wishes of travelers who visit Abashiri.
The bell features a relief called the "Venus of Moyoro," named after the Moyoro Shell Mound ruins where it was discovered. The relief is a female figure made from whale tusk that is said to represent a "shaman" who delivered the wishes of the ancient Okhotsk people who once lived on this sea to heaven.
With the guidance of the sound of Venus' bell and the light of the lighthouse guiding the ship, try writing your wishes on the "Scallop Ema."
