Tentozan

A 360-degree panorama overlooking Abashiri

Tentozan, located in Abashiri City, is a scenic spot at an altitude of 207m. The view from the mountain was described as "as if you were in the heavenly city," hence the name "Tentozan," and in 1938 it was designated a national cultural property and a "place of scenic beauty."
From the summit, you can enjoy a magnificent 360-degree panoramic view of Lake Abashiri, Lake Notoro, the Sea of Okhotsk beyond Abashiri city, and even the Shiretoko Mountain Range. In winter, you can experience the breathtaking scenery covered with drifting ice.
At the summit, you'll find Okhotsk Ryu-hyo Museum and Hokkaido Museum of Northern Indigenous Peoples, and on the Lake Abashiri side, you'll find the Abashiri Prison Museum, an open-air history museum, as well as Tent Land a campsite offering a panoramic view of Hokkaido's rich natural scenery. Tentozan Tento is also known as Abashiri's most famous cherry blossom viewing spot. The observation deck at the summit is free to use.
