Sunflower field in Abashiri City Omagari Lakeside Park

A Omagari Kohanenchi using the former farmland of Abashiri Prison

Omagari Lakeside Park is a vast tourist farm located in Abashiri City, Hokkaido. It was developed on the former site of the Abashiri Prison 's farm and opened in 2005. As a nature park spanning 80 hectares, it provides a place for locals and tourists to experience and learn.
The park's greatest attraction is the two magnificent views it offers in summer and autumn, created by its two-season sunflower cultivation. In the first season, approximately 400,000 sunflowers bloom from early to mid-July, while in the second season (late September to early October), when the sunflowers sway in the autumn breeze, approximately 2.6 million sunflowers bloom across the vast 14-hectare grounds, creating a breathtaking landscape.
In autumn, the cosmos fields are also in full bloom, allowing visitors to enjoy the yellow sunflowers and the lovely pink and white cosmos flowers at the same time. A wooden observation deck is also installed in the park, offering a panoramic view of the entire flower field.
The park also offers harvesting experiences for asparagus, cherry tomatoes, and other vegetables (inquire for details). Since the walking paths are unpaved, it is recommended to wear comfortable shoes.

There are benches in Omagari Kohanenchi where you can take photos surrounded by sunflowers. The view of the flower fields from the observation deck is also breathtaking.
