Omagari Lakeside Park is a vast tourist farm located in Abashiri City, Hokkaido. It was opened in 2005 on the site of the former farm of Abashiri Prison. As a natural park covering a total area of 80 hectares, it is a place where citizens and tourists can experience and learn.
The greatest attraction of the garden is the two magnificent views it offers in summer and autumn, thanks to the double crop of sunflowers. In the first season, from early to mid-July, approximately 750,000 flowers bloom, and in the second season (late September to early October), when the autumn winds are blowing, approximately 2.6 million sunflowers are in full bloom across the vast 14-hectare site, creating a breathtaking landscape.
The cosmos fields are also at their best in autumn, so you can enjoy the yellow sunflowers and the pretty pink and white cosmos at the same time. There is also a wooden observation deck in the garden, from which you can get a panoramic view of the entire flower field.
You can also experience picking asparagus and tomatoes on the premises (please inquire). The walking paths are unpaved, so we recommend wearing comfortable shoes.
