The 60th Abashiri Okhotsk Drift Ice Festival is currently in the midst of preparations, and this year they will once again be holding a visitor-participation event, the "It's So Hot! Drift Ice Kayak Pulling Contest"! Participants will be in teams of four, with two people in the kayak and the other two competing to see who can pull it the fastest. The winning team will receive a prize of 40,000 yen, so be sure to form the strongest team and participate in the contest to win the prize! ✨️

Regarding recruitment of contestants

The number of applicants is limited to 4 people per team. Anyone can participate, regardless of whether they live in or outside the city.
Applications will be accepted until Wednesday, January 29, 2025.*However, if the number of teams that apply exceeds 10, a lottery will be held.

Drift Ice Kayak Pulling Competition Application Form

Competition method

The race will be run one group at a time using a time trial format.
The race distance is scheduled to be about 30 meters, with two people in the kayak and two people pulling it swapped, and the race will be repeated two times. The time it takes to stop the kayak with people on board within the frame (10m x 10m) at the goal point will be recorded.
Regarding handicaps, if a team includes children under elementary school age, regardless of gender, each person will be deducted 3 seconds, and if a team includes women, each person will be deducted 3 seconds.
Please note that participants wearing spikes will be disqualified. Also, false starts are limited to two, and three false starts will result in disqualification.

About prize money

1st place will receive a prize of 40,000 yen, 2nd place will receive a prize of 10,000 yen, and 3rd place will receive a prize of 4,000 yen.
