Lake Tofutsu

Lake Tofutsu, a registered wetland under the Ramsar Convention

On November 8, 2005, Lake Tofutsu was formally designated as a Ramsar registered wetland at the 9th Ramsar Convention Conference held in Kampala, the capital of Uganda. Lake Tofutsu, which spreads along the national highway from the coastline of Okhotsk, is one of the representative landscapes of Okhotsk. Around October, this is the observation point for the swans that come flying in search of food. You can observe swans up close.

In the summer, the wetlands of Lake Tofutsu Tofutsu are filled with red-eyed irises and ponies graze, forming an idyllic landscape that is a great photo spot.

Pony never eats black iris because it is poisonous. Focusing on this, as part of conservation activities for the iris, ponies and other horses are pastured and fed with weeds in an effort to restore the vegetation of the iris.
