Hello, this is the Abashiri City Tourism Association.

This is the third email newsletter distribution.
We will provide you with the latest information on Abashiri, so please use it when planning your trip.

1. Lake Notoro Glasswort community

Glasswort community Lake Notoro is now in full bloom. Also known as "Saltweed," it is green in summer but turns red in autumn, covering the shores of Lake Abashiri like a carpet. Said to be the largest Glasswort colony in Japan, it is at its best until late September. The color changes a little earlier than the autumn leaves, and you can enjoy Glasswort spreading across the entire area from the wooden promenade up close. Access is convenient by car.

2. Ubaranai Transportation Park Steam Locomotive

You can see a steam locomotive about 500 meters from Glasswort colony Lake Notoro. This locomotive was retired in 1970 and preserved at the site of the former Hama-Abashiri Station (the original Abashiri Station), but is now on display at Ubaranai Transportation Park, which was renovated on the site of the former Ubaranai Station on the Yuami Line.
The interior of the carriage has also been renovated, and both the exterior and interior are worth seeing. Why not immerse yourself in nostalgia while learning about the history of the locomotive?

3. Cosmos fields at Omagari Lakeside Park

The cosmos fields at Omagari Lakeside Park are at their best in September. There are also photo spots such as the cosmos hill and the signboard, making them perfect for taking memorable photos. The cosmos swaying in the gentle breeze under the autumn sunshine is a sight well worth seeing. Both the cosmos and sunflowers are currently at their best, making this a must-visit spot during this time of year.

4. Omagari Lakeside Park Omagari Kohanenchi

Omagari Kohanenchi at Omagari Lakeside Park are at their best twice a year, with the second peak occurring around the time of the Okhotsk Abashiri Marathon. The finish line of the Abashiri Marathon is at Omagari Lakeside Park, where runners finish among Japan's largest Omagari Kohanenchi, with approximately 2.6 million sunflowers. This year, the marathon will be held on September 29th, but the sunflowers are expected to reach full bloom a little earlier than usual. Why not take a photo surrounded by sunflowers?
